Behaviour Policy
At Springvale Primary we aim to make a difference and support everyone to reach their full potential by living out our ethos of:
‘Play together, learn together, achieve together.’
We believe that positive behaviour is essential for creating a safe, happy, and successful learning environment. Our Behaviour Policy sets out clear expectations for how we treat one another, how we learn, and how we contribute to our school community. This policy is built on the belief that good behaviour can be taught, encouraged, and celebrated. By working together — staff, pupils, and parents — we aim to help every child develop self-control, respect, and responsibility for their actions. The purpose of this policy is to:
Promote a positive, caring atmosphere where all children feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
Encourage children to make good choices and understand the impact of their actions on others.
Foster kindness, respect, and inclusion throughout the school community.
Support staff in using consistent approaches to behaviour management across the school.
Ensure that unacceptable behaviour is dealt with fairly and proportionately, focusing on helping children learn from their mistakes and restore relationships.
Our approach to behaviour reflects our school’s values and ethos. We want every child to grow into a confident, respectful, and responsible learner who contributes positively to the life of the school and beyond.

Behaviour Curriculum
Our behaviour curriculum defines the habits, routines and standards that enable pupils to feel safe, belong to our community and succeed in their learning. Pupils are taught how to treat others with kindness and respect, engage positively in lessons, regulate their emotions and take responsibility for their actions.
We maintain high expectations because clear boundaries create a safe and purposeful environment in which everyone can flourish. Where expectations are not met, adults respond calmly and consistently, using each moment as an opportunity to teach, repair and strengthen relationships.
Curriculum Intent
We believe good behaviour should be explicitly taught, modelled, practised and reinforced as part of our curriculum. Our behaviour curriculum explicitly teaches pupils the knowledge, habits and relational skills required to:
· Keep themselves and others safe
· Engage positively in learning
· Regulate their emotions
· Repair harm
· Develop resilience
· Contribute positively to our school community
· Demonstrate good manners and respectful conduct
· Develop independence and personal responsibility
· Promote restorative practice
· Develop relational inclusion

Class Dojo
At our school, we use Class Dojo as a positive tool to recognise and celebrate pupils who consistently meet our school rules throughout the day. Instant recognition is a powerful motivator for children; it helps them clearly understand expectations and reinforces the behaviours we want to see across all areas of school life.
All staff members are able to award Dojo points, meaning that positive behaviour is noticed and valued wherever it occurs - whether in the classroom, around the school, or on the playground. This shared approach ensures consistency and fairness and helps to build a strong, positive behaviour culture across the whole school.
Our reward system has two key elements. Each year, our School Council works collaboratively to agree whole-school Dojo rewards, giving pupils a meaningful voice in shaping what they are working towards. Alongside this, each class decides its own class rewards, creating a second layer of motivation. This “twin system” supports behaviour in two ways: it encourages individuals to follow school rules and contribute positively to the wider school community, while also promoting teamwork within classes, as pupils work together towards shared rewards.
