PE, Sport and Physical Activity and Intent
Our school aims to inspire children to develop a love of physical activity and sport. Through good physical education, whole school values and a whole child approach, we aim to nurture confident, resilient children who will strive for their personal best.
We provide our children with a range of active experiences and clubs. During these activities, we encourage them to obtain the values and skills which allow them to celebrate and respect the success of others, as well as modestly celebrating their own successes and feeling proud. We aim to ensure that our delivery of physical education allows all children to have the skills and mindset to leave primary school with the capabilities to be successful in sporting challenges and in active, healthy lifestyles at secondary school and life beyond.
We strive to educate both our children and families to develop a greater understanding on how to live healthy lifestyles and make healthy choices. We are dedicated to ensuring healthy minds as well as bodies and will continue to support our children’s well-being.
We have strong links with local clubs and partnerships within our community and with other schools, to ensure the children can develop their love of sport and take part in competitive activities.
Here is our PE long-term-plan:
PE and Sports Premium Funding
The Government is providing each primary school throughout England with additional funding which is to be spent on improving the sports provision within schools. At Springvale Primary School we believe a high quality PE curriculum should be an integral part of the whole school curriculum and one that staff, pupils and parents understand and can contribute to. Our school recognises the values that a high quality PE and school sport curriculum gives pupils. Our latest report can be found under the 'Key Information' tab on this website.
School Games
We have been awarded the School Games Gold Award in recognition:
– of our school’s provision for pupils to engage in 2 hours of sporting activities per week;
– that we engage at least 50% of pupils in extra curricular sport;
– that we provide appropriate competition level (through inter school activities);
– that at least 5% of children lead and officiate school games.
Staying Active Outside of School
At Springvale Primary School, we encourage children to stay active every day — not just during school hours. Regular physical activity helps improve fitness, concentration, confidence, mental wellbeing, and teamwork skills. Below are some useful websites, clubs, and resources for families to help children stay healthy and active at home and in the community.
