Our School
Welcome from the Headteacher
Welcome to Springvale Primary School, a thriving and inclusive community school located in the market town of Penistone.
At Springvale, we are proud to be a friendly, welcoming, creative and supportive setting where every child is valued and encouraged to grow and develop into well-rounded, confident and kind members of the community. Our core value of “Play together, Learn together, Achieve together” sits at the heart of everything we do, underpinning our commitment to collaboration, respect and success for all.
We are passionate about providing children with a broad and enriching curriculum. Our mission is to ensure that all pupils have access to a wide range of opportunities, particularly within the Arts and Sport. Children are able to learn a variety of musical instruments, take part in drama through both performance and theatre experiences, and develop their creativity through art and design technology. Alongside this, we are fully committed to Physical Education and Sport, offering a wide range of sporting opportunities throughout the year, including weekly competitions and a variety of before and after school clubs.
Our extended provision is equally important to us. We offer a wide and varied programme of before and after school clubs, as well as a range of enriching experiences both within and beyond the classroom. Educational visits and residentials form a key part of our offer, including a visit to York in Year 5 and a PGL adventure residential in Year 6, helping children to build independence, resilience and lasting memories.
We are extremely proud of our strong academic outcomes. Springvale is one of the highest-performing schools in Barnsley, with consistently strong results in KS2 SATs, Phonics Screening and the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check. We have regularly been ranked first in Barnsley for MTC outcomes, as well as achieving excellent results in greater depth mathematics at the end of Year 6.
Above all, we are proud of our school community. We have built strong, positive relationships with our families and the local community, creating a warm, supportive environment with a real family feel. We believe that these relationships are key to ensuring that every child feels safe, happy and able to succeed.
We hope that our website gives you a clear insight into life at Springvale. If you would like to find out more, please do not hesitate to get in touch—we would be delighted to welcome you to our school.
